Economical - BRM's fully implemented Lean, Cellular approach to manufacturing controls cost without compromising quality.
With the adoption of "Lean" thinking and operating, BRM Container has more than doubled its productivity in the last two years.
With two production "Cells" in operation for standard containers we can produce more than 50 model CO90 [6'x4'x4'] containers per regular eight-hour shift.
| Lean: The maniacal pursuit of the eliminiation of waste from every business process with the ultimate goal of providing World-Class quality, delivery, and service to our customers at the lowest possible cost. |
The LEAN philosophy can trace its beginnings to Henry Ford's automation of the assembly process. It was further refined by Toyota in the 1990's. It is described in two books by James P. Womack, "The Machine That Changed the World" (1990) and "Lean Thinking" (1996). By incorporating problem solving at the worker level to improve efficiency and productivity, a manufacturer can improve the eight wastes: motion, defects, transportation and walking, unused creativity, inventory, overproduction, waiting, processing, and inventory.
There are ten rules of Lean: eliminate waste, minimize inventory, maximize flow, pull from demand, empower Workers, meet customer requirements, do it right the first time, abolish local optimization, partner with suppliers, and create a culture of continuous improvement
We’ve compressed required floor space and increased productivity so that our standard lead time is now only 2-3 weeks, as compared to the industry standard of 6-8 weeks.
Cellular Manufacturing is an outcome of the Lean philosophy and minimizes transportation waste that occurs when equipment is organized by operation rather than process. This enables mixed production and is essential for demand-based line balancing. It requires cross-operational training for operators and flexible systems utilizing quick changeover techniques.
